Abstract

The objective of this narrative review is to relate the functioning of the immune system to cancer and its conventional treatment, verifying if the practice of physical exercise can present as a strategy without treatment of cancer patients. The immune system has an outstanding function of protecting the human organism against aggressive agents, besides presenting a complex and integrative form of action, involving different immune cells. Cancer develops from defective cells that are not recognized by immune cells and conventional treatment by chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy generates relevant side effects. A practice of physical exercises, developed since the diagnosis of the disease, allows reduction of the side effects of conventional treatment, besides being responsible for the reduction of cancer cells. In this way, the practice of physical exercises should be seen as an additive treatment to the conventional against cancer.
