INFLUENCE OF FUNCTIONAL TRAINING ON THE PHYSICAL FITNESS OF ACTIVE ELDERLY
Keywords:
Resistance Training, Aging, Daily Activities, Quality of LifeAbstract
The objective of this study was to verify the effect of functional training on flexibility, balance, cardiorespiratory capacity and muscular strength in the elderly. The sample was divided into Functional Group - FG (n = 16, 67,1±3,7 years) and Conventional Group - CG (n = 14; 63,9±4,7 years). Body mass index and waist / hip ratio were evaluated. To verify the functional fitness was used part of the Senior Fitness Test battery. Data analysis was performed using ANOVA. The present study verified a significant improvement in FG in strength, flexibility and cardiorespiratory capacity, with no statistical difference in GC. Already in the balance in both the inter and intragroup analyzes the FG presented a statistically significant increase. Regarding the anthropometric variables, no differences were found in any of the analyzes. It is concluded that the applied functional training protocol is efficient in improving functional aptitude in active elderly women.References
