This article presents Language Acquisition as an area of investigation within linguistic studies. To this end, we will present a brief historical evolution of studies in the area, clarifying the Empiricist and Rationalist currents, in which we describe the main theories that support Language Acquisition as a field of investigation, such as Behaviorism, Gerativism and Interactionism. We also discuss the process of lexical acquisition and the verbal category. Finally, we present research by Borovsky and Creel (2014), Andreu et al. (2016) and Alves (2018) as examples of studies developed within the scope of language acquisition.
