Gender and violence in the songs of italian immigration in RS/Brazil

Abstract

Among the countless manifestations that integrate the cultural and linguistic diversity of Brazil, there are the songs of Italian immigration, brought by immigrants or being created by their descendants. The article intends to discuss the gender violence in the Italian immigration culture through the songs performed by the descendants of immigrants in Rio Grande do Sul. It will be presented a analysis of three songs in which it is possible to identify, in their narratives, the reflection of the social context in which they were created and the ideological and religious traits that constitute the culture of immigration in Brazil.
