Abstract

Aiming to analyze the level of physical activity (LPA) of women before the gestational period and its effect on body weight gain during gestation, 36 pregnant women from the Family Health Support Center (NASF) of a municipality in Minas Gerais completed two questionnaires. After data analysis, it was observed that more than 60% of the pregnant women were within the ideal physical profile before pregnancy, while 36.1% were overweight (13.9% obese). Regarding LPA, more than half (58.3%) were classified as (very) active in the pre-gestational period, with a higher prevalence of moderate physical activities. This behavior was associated with reductions in body weight during gestation (χ² = 9.257; p < 0.05). Thus, pre-gestational LPA was shown to be a factor in controlling body weight during gestation, reinforcing the importance of adopting and maintaining an active lifestyle to promote health during pregnancy.
