Abstract

With the increase in the prevalence of sedentary lifestyles, obesity and chronic non-communicable diseases, especially among women, different PE practices have been suggested to treat and prevent them, including Pilates (PIL). Despite the fact that increased calorific expenditure can result in a reduction in body fat, the real contribution of PIL to body composition parameters (BC) is still unclear in the scientific literature. With this in mind, this study sought to analyses, through a systematic review, the effects of different training using PIL on BC in women aged between 30 and 59. The search followed the PICO strategy and PRISMA methodology, including studies found in the Periodicos CAPES database over the last 10 years. Two reviewers independently selected the studies, establishing screening and inclusion criteria, and 5 of the 118 studies found were included for analysis. After analyzing the studies presented, the effect of LIP on improving body composition parameters in women aged between 30 and 59 is unclear. Some limitations, such as the low number of studies and the failure to control important variables throughout the intervention, suggest that more studies are needed to reach more robust conclusions on the subject.
