The manufacturing processes of commercially available tiles, such as ceramic, concrete and fiber cement, demand high emissions of greenhouse gases, causing damage to the environment. Then, the concern about the impacts of the roofing system of the buildings arises, presenting the wooden tiles as an alternative and less bioimpacting material. This article aims to rescue the historical process of knowledge transfer of the wooden tiles roof construtive technique, highlighting the importants contributions of different cultures - foreign and autochthonous, in addition to mapping their commercial context available in Brazil. The results show the applicability of wooden tile in roofing, in view of its performance and low environmental impact.
