This work sought as a general objective a reflection on how tourism activities can positively interfere with the physical, mental and emotional health of the population called elderly. The secondary objectives were to describe aspects that promote improvement in the attitude towards life and health of the elderly and to investigate the public policies implemented at the Ministry of Tourism, aiming at the health of the elderly. The research was mostly developed through sites such as SciELO and Google Academic, as well as articles and books already published and available on the Internet. It also verified the way the public power, mainly through the Ministry of Tourism, acts in this context that involves economy and health, aiming to meet both the demands of the tourism market and this new reality that is the aging, more and more evident of the population. The results showed that yes, leisure activities as a whole, have an important role in the promotion and maintenance of health and quality of life of the elderly. But it also left unequivocal that there is much that can and should be lapidated in this relationship between public power, the market and the elderly.
