Abstract

This article addresses the dimension of memory around the carimbó, placed at the service of the self-identification of collectivities, and of the processes of resistance and perpetuation of the manifestation, despite instances that make them invisible due to their conditions of origin, or the territorial space in which they appear. In the 20th century, the carimbó jumped from a repressed manifestation to a popularization that led to its recognition as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Brazil, based on peripheral voices, understood as a counterpoint to the paradigm of social inequalities.
