"BESIDES DEAF HE IS A FAGGOT?!" AND, LOOK AT THE OTHER: "BESIDES DEAF, SHE IS A DYKE!": TOWARDS A HISTORIOGRAPHY OF DEAF GAYS AND LESBIANS FROM THE CONGRESSES OF THE RAINBOW ALLIANCE OF THE DEAF
Abstract: From the perspective of history as a creator of realities, this bibliographical-documentary article aims to explore possibilities of bringing to light the experiences of deaf gays and lesbians erased in history. To this end, we resorted to a documentary series composed of the programs of the conventions held by the Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf from 1978 to 1989. The programs suggest the birth of a North American movement of deaf gays and lesbians initially aimed at the exchange of experiences between generations and the promotion of friendships and that later unfolds in political and social events aimed at promoting human rights for the deaf with emphasis on education, health, culture and identity affirmation regarding being gay, lesbian and deaf. They also reveal a form of bio-reexistence capable of straining the deaf communities themselves and put in suspension, standards to which the deaf gay and lesbian communities ended up giving in.
