Abstract

The following text sought to anthropologically analyze the myth of Ilha-Brasil composed by Jaime Cortesão in the 20th century. To this end, based on the writings of Cortesão and some of his readers, structural analysis of myths was carried out, following the proposal of Lévi-Strauss (1989) and Edmund Leach (1983) added to Anderson's imagined community (1983). The reader will find a historical context, followed by a synthesis of the theories that guided this text, to then find the analysis of the myth and description of the symbolic levels of the myth.
