the state of the art of the Manaus case
Abstract
For over a decade, Brazil has been following a new migratory flow: the arrival of immigrants and refugees, especially to the northern region of the country. As a result, the school community suffered an immediate impact, notably in the emergence of teaching Portuguese as a non-native language. Our text proposes to, tracing a brief overview of the sociolinguistic scenario of the city of Manaus, investigate the articulation between postgraduate research and the present school and sociolinguistic reality. Our results point to a mismatch between the demands of society and the interests of graduate studies.
