The article analyzes Latin American cultural heritage connections, based on a trip to Uruguay carried out by historian and folklorist Walter Fernando Piazza (1925-2016), delegate of the Santa Catarina Folklore Commission, at the II Exposición de Folklore de las Américas, in La Paloma, Rocha Department, in 1957. Responsible for the exhibition stand for objects of material and immaterial culture from the Azorean colonization of the coast of Santa Catarina, he established exchanges with Uruguayan researchers on the Bulletin of the Santa Catarina Folklore Commission and on folklore as an autonomous science and discipline.
