DOI:

Abstract
This article aims to discuss how the categories religion and biomedicine were intertwined in the processes of negotiation of meanings between the sacred and the profane in the cultural dynamics of the organization of the Casa de Hansen Spiritual Hospital and in the group's experience with spiritual surgeries. The objective was to understand how the appropriation of symbols from the biomedical universe for the religious institution was made. The results highlighted the polysemic arrangements made from symbolic constructions that attribute meanings through the exchange of meanings shared by the group.
