Abstract

The objective was to evaluate the quality of the purple passion fruits, obtained in conventional and organic cultivation systems. The fruits were harvested at the stage of commercial maturation (totally purple peel) and analyzed for characterization of the physicochemical, centesimal composition, bioactive compounds and antioxidant capacity. Based on the physicochemical and centesimal composition, the purple passion fruits from the two cultivation systems showed significant differences in all variables, except for moisture and SS/TA. For bioactive compounds and antioxidant capacity, the results show that the conventional cultivation system had the highest values, except for yellow flavonoids and DPPH. The cultivation system is one of the factors that influence the content of certain physicochemical components and substances with an antioxidant character in purple passion fruits. Therefore, the fruits produced in organic system complied with the parameters required by the consumer market and the competent legal bodies, demonstrating conditions of commercialization and competitiveness, even when compared to conventional ones.
