Abstract

Wildfires represent one of the main forces of ecological transformation in the Cerrado biome. This study investigated the influence of fire frequency and intensity on the floristic diversity of an open tree savanna in the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park (PNCG), a region marked by strong climatic seasonality and high fire incidence during the dry season. Three experimental areas were established: A1 (burned July 2022), A2 (burned July 2023) and C (unburned control). Three permanent 15 × 15 m plots were installed in each area, where a survey of tree species with diameter ≥ 3 cm was carried out (2022–2024). A total of 47 species in 444 individuals were identified. Diversity was assessed using the Shannon-Weaver index (H'), Pielou's evenness (J') and Simpson's dominance (1-D). Differences among areas were tested by the Kruskal-Wallis test with Dunn multiple comparisons (α = 0.05). Area A2 had the highest H' (2.13), followed by A1 (2.11) and C (2.08); differences were not statistically significant (H = 1.42; p = 0.491). The highest number of individuals in A2 (162) and the greater abundance of Annonaceae, Fabaceae and Vochysiaceae indicate a pioneer response to recent fire. Results support the fire-dependent character of the Cerrado and reinforce Integrated Fire Management (IFM) as a conservation tool.
