This paper confirms the hypothesis that the liturgical dates of Tuesday of the First Week of Lent and Monday of the Fourth Week were opportunities for mendicant friars to produce sermons on commerce, avarice, usury, and simony. Initially based on seven sermons by Giordano da Pisa and Iacopo da Varazze, this hypothesis was tested with 19 sermons from other 13th and 14th-century Italian friars. Sixteen sermons addressed the subjects aforementioned, offering thus two markers for scholars to access the ethical economic discourse of the Italian friars.Referências
