The circular economy is an economic approach that differs from the traditional linear model of extraction-production-disposal. Its goal is to keep products, materials, and resources in use for as long as possible, minimizing waste generation (Ellen MacArthur Foundation, 2021). This research seeks to characterize the circular economy models implemented in different countries in order to compare them and establish their differentiating elements, as well as their convergences and divergences. This will be developed in three phases: the first consists of searching databases; the second phase, characterizing the identified models; and the third phase, identifying the main factors associated with the convergences and divergences. This characterization will allow us to identify key factors, such as the constituent elements of each model, its main characteristics, and the actors involved in its implementation. Based on this comparative analysis, the objective is to highlight both the success factors and the obstacles that have influenced the adoption and development of the circular economy in the global context.
