The selection of machines for mechanized wood cutting can become a highly complex decision due to the necessary balance between traditional and innovative comparison criteria. The objective of this study was to apply a multicriteria approach in the choice of machines for mechanized wood cutting. Three harvester alternatives (PH7, JDW, VM6) were proposed, evaluated on six criteria based on machine telemetry, being Productivity, Operational Efficiency, Mechanical Availability, Ratio of Productive, Unproductive and Mechanical Notes (PR, EO, DM, RAP, RAI, RAM). Through peer comparison, the VM6 machine had a 72% chance of being chosen, followed by JDW with 70% and PH7 with 60%. The results were validated through statistical analysis, which indicated that the PH7 machine was significantly inferior to the VM6 and the JDW in all the criteria evaluated. The multicriteria analysis showed significant results regarding the weighting of the variables considered in the study based on the opinion of experts. However, it is recommended that future studies consider a greater number of variables, such as acquisition cost, long-term durability, maintenance costs, and compatibility with the conditions of the forest terrain, for a more assertive decision in the selection process.
