QUALITY OF PINE SHAVINGS FOR THE MICROENVIRONMENT AND BEHAVIORAL PREFERENCE OF SYRIAN HAMSTERS (Mesocricetus auratus)

Qualidade de maravalhas de pinus para microambiente e preferência comportamental de hamster sírio (Mesocricetus auratus)

 

RESUMO: Este estudo analisou a qualidade da maravalha de pinus de marcas comerciais e propôs o desenvolvimento de um produto diferenciado para a criação de hamsters (Mesocricetus auratus). Assim, a qualidade da maravalha comercial foi avaliada com base na granulometria, teor de umidade e condições sanitárias. Devido à falta de padronização, foram desenvolvidas maravalhas esterilizadas, coloridas e aromatizadas. Para verificar o efeito da esterilização, compararam-se dois métodos: autoclave e estufa. Corantes alimentícios em pó foram utilizados para colorir a maravalha. Após a coloração, o material foi seco ao ar e esterilizado em estufa. Testes de preferência de cor e de aroma foram realizados com 20 hamsters sexados. Observaram-se alterações no consumo de ração e de água durante o teste de aroma (indicativas de estresse nos animais). Em seguida, montaram-se dois sistemas de cinco gaiolas interligadas para o teste de preferência de cor; cada sistema abrigou 10 hamsters sexados por 7 dias, com monitoramento por vídeo. Houve crescimento de fungos em todas as marcas comerciais avaliadas. Não houve alteração no comportamento dos hamsters em relação ao tamanho das partículas e à cor da maravalha, o que poderia constituir um diferencial de mercado. A aromatização alterou o comportamento dos animais e não é recomendada.
