Abstract

This article aims to present the results of research on youth and adult dropout (EJA) in the Amazon context, as well as the reasons that lead to school delay, dropout and permanence, we also highlight the reasons why the subjects return to school. This study was carried out at the Patalino State Elementary and Secondary School, located in the community of Taperaçu-Campo, in the city of Bragança-Pará. Therefore, the objective of the study consisted of: identifying and analyzing the conditioning factors of school dropout in Youth and Adult Education (EJA); examining the structural challenges to guarantee the permanence of students in this type of education. To develop the work, the main theoretical interlocutors were used, such as Freire (1967; 2023), Arroyo (2005; 2023), Caldart (2004; 2023), Silva; Ribeiro; Silva (2025), Ramos (2021), who support the discussion on school dropout in EJA. The methodological principles were based on the perspective of quantitative and qualitative research. In short, the research demonstrates the challenges and difficulties that EJA students face in remaining in school, pointing to the need for an education that is connected to the reality of students, that respects their time, their history and their struggle. Understanding EJA as a fundamental right provided for in the LDBEN.
