Análise territorial do crescimento econômico no Cerrado Matogrossense: impactos ambientais da expansão da agropecuária na região da diretoria regional de educação de Primavera do Leste

Abstract

This article aims to discuss the relationship between the expansion of agriculture in the Municipalities of the Regional Directorate of Education of Primavera do Leste and the impacts caused in the Cerrado biome by this productive sector. The municipalities covered by the research area are: Campo Verde, Gaúcha do Norte, Paranatinga, Poxoréu, Primavera do Leste and Santo Antônio do Leste. For this research, a qualitative-quantitative methodology was used, seeking to carry out a historical and critical analysis of the data obtained from a secondary source with the support of the studied bibliography that supported the discussions. We point to the fact that the insertion of the Mato Grosso Cerrado into the agricultural frontier was promoted by the State and its main objective was to alleviate and/or solve the problem of external debt, from the second half of the 20th century onwards. In this way, the internationalization of the Cerrado economy and, consequently, of its natural resources was promoted. In this way, it can be understood that Capital appropriates nature, especially in underdeveloped countries, to guarantee its reproduction. The municipalities involved in the area of ​​this research have experienced, from the 1980s to the present, a large increase in their areas planted with monocultures, with an emphasis on soybeans, corn and cotton, along the lines of agribusiness. As a result of this process, there are serious deleterious effects on nature, including the loss of vegetation cover and biodiversity, with several species of fauna and flora becoming extinct, pollution of the soil, underground and surface water sources and the air due to the indiscriminate use of pesticides.
