Abstract

Small family farming plays an important role in society, contributing to the development of socioeconomic structures in the regions. In this sense, it is necessary to understand in which context it is developed. Thus, the objective of this work is to investigate how the historical process of agricultural occupation of land in Mato Grosso implied the creation of rural settlements for family farming, in particular the Settlement Vila Rural Laço de Ouro located in the municipality of São Pedro da Cipa-MT. In order to achieve the proposed objective, a study with a qualitative approach was carried out, which allowed access to bibliographies and documents related to the question raised. Finally, it was found that the measures adopted with the aim of intensifying the agricultural occupation of Mato Grosso lands generated several social conflicts around the unequal distribution of land. This fact favored the emergence of social movements that demanded agrarian reform.
