The school as a Pathological Territory: The attention crisis and teacher’ mental illness
Keywords:
School territory, Teaching work, Psychological distres, Neoliberal subjectivationAbstract
The article analyzes the psychological illness of teachers in the metropolitan region of Goiânia, grounded in the interrelation between historical-dialectical materialism and phenomenology, characterizing the public school as a pathological territory marked by authoritarianism and precarious working conditions. The research points out that disputes surrounding education, the platformization of teaching, and the neoliberal logic impose a crisis of meaning on the school, expressed through the difficulty of listening and ‘bureaucratic vampirism’. These changes, as part of the constitution of a neoliberal mechanosphere and a consequent crisis of narration, have impacted pedagogical autonomy, subjugating it to the logic of evaluation metrics and technological control. Moreover, all these transformations strike individuals directly at the level of the body, ultimately compromising the smooth progress of the teaching and learning process.
