Abstract

Analyzing the contemporary debate regarding career and motherhood based on narratives from women who interact on social media to talk about their daily lives and coping tactics for dealing with career and motherhood. This article seeks to verify who has represented academic mothers on social media. For this, we used five Instagram profiles as data collection instruments: @parentinscience; @maesqueescrevem; @nucleomaterna; @mmi.ufpe and @materniencia.ufu, which were interpreted in the light of content and discourse analysis to investigate who these mothers are, the messages passed on, the public interaction and the perceptions based on what was said. It is concluded that there is a romanticization and essentialism in the discourses on motherhood and scientific productivity, leading to a Eurocentric vision of white supremacy, as they are based on hegemonic and unified discourses.
