Agroecology as a way to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 2 in Brazil

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the viability of Agroecology as a concrete option for Brazil to reach the goals of Sustainable Development Goal 2 formulated by the United Nations. A qualitative and descriptive methodological action was used, seeking to interpret the correlation between Agroecology and the aforementioned goals in the Brazilian territory. Data collection took place via document analysis and bibliographical review, making use of journal articles, theses, dissertations and data from International Organizations. 33 initiatives registered by the United Nations in 2022 were analyzed, related to the goals of Sustainable Development Goal 2, developed through 10 projects in Brazil involving partnerships between public institutions, organizations and international development funds, seeking information about their location in the territory Brazilian, the actors involved in the implementation and how such actions approach the principles of Agroecology. It was verified that the initiatives of greater diffusion, quantitative of resources and territorial capillarity were carried out in the Northeast region of the country, and half of the actions involved projects guided by principles of Agroecology, with emphasis on the execution of the Dom Helder Câmara Project.
