1º DE JULHO DE 1970. O ENCONTRO ENTRE PAULO VI E OS “REBELDES” DAS COLÓNIAS PORTUGUESAS DE ÁFRICA: A RECEÇÃO DA IMPRENSA ITALIANA

Resumo

RESUMO: Temos como objetivo, no presente artigo, destacar a maneiracom que a imprensa italiana recebeu a notícia da audiência concedidapelo Papa Paulo VI, no dia 1o de julho de 1970, aos três maiores representantesdos movimentos de libertação das colônias portuguesas deÁfrica, Amílcar Cabral, Agostinho Neto e Marcelino dos Santos. A investigaçãocorresponde a um período que vai de 25 de junho a 6 dejulho de 1970 e compreende os seguintes diários: Corriere della Sera eLa Stampa, dois dos jornais de maior circulação; Il Secolo d’Italia e IlTempo, expressões da ideologia política da direita; L’Unità e l’Avanti!,pontos de referência para evidenciar as posições dos socialistas e doscomunistas italianos.

ABSTRACT: This article aims to underline the way in which the Italianpress related the meeting between Pope Paulo VI and Amílcar Cabral,Agostinho Neto e Marcelino dos Santos – three of the major exponentsof national liberation movements of the Portuguese colonies in Africa –on the first of July, 1970. The research involves the period between 25thof June and 6th of July, 1970. It was developed on the pages of the followingnewspapers: Corriere della Sera and La Stampa, two of the most reputableItalian newspapers; Il Secolo d’Italia and Il Tempo, both of them close tothe centre-right Italian political party; L’Unità and L’avanti!, both leftwingnewspapers.
