Entre subversão e abjeção
A representação de corpos e sexualidades queer em The Daylight Gate
Resumo
O gótico queer, uma das mais recentes vertentes da literatura gótica, se apresenta como um tipo de ficção que objetiva realizar um exame crítico de sexualidades divergentes. Este é o caso do romance The Daylight Gate, de Jeanette Winterson, que relê a narrativa do julgamento das bruxas de Pendle, um dos mais conhecidos e documentados da história inglesa. Neste ensaio, tenho por objetivo analisar a representação de sexualidades queer no romance de Winterson. Em um primeiro momento, analiso a representação potencialmente subversiva da protagonista Alice Nutter, então discuto o processo de abjeção imposto às mulheres da família Device, condenadas por bruxaria.
